Rugby and Cricket in the Var

Funded by President Mourad Boudjellal’s fortune, Toulon has recruited some of the best players in the world. Of course, the best known of these is Jonny Wilkinson, but others who have worn rouge et noir in recent years include Joe van Niekerk, Victor Matfield, George Gregan, Sonny Bill Williams, Felipe Contepomi, George Smith, Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe, Carl Hayman and Matt Giteau. Most recently in the past year or so they have been joined by brothers Delon and Steffon Armitage, Simon Shaw and Andrew Sheridan.

Var Village Voice's monthly Rugby Column, is sponsored by Blevins Franks, and written by regional Blevins Franks Manager, Simon Eveleigh, will keep you up-to-date with all the latest developments at Stade Mmayol, as well as other rugby matters.

And Simon Eveleigh knows what he is talking about, having played as a Pro for the French Club Brioude in the Auvergne for three years.   Now he coaches the Under 17's in St.   Maximum la Ste Baume.

For Var Village Voice subscribers only
Stade Mayol is a fairly small stadium and as half the places are taken by season ticket holders, tickets can sometimes be hard to come by. Ticketing information can be found on RCT’s website, but from time to time Simon gets tickets given to him at the last minute. Whilst making no promises, we would like to offer readers the chance to be on a list giving the opportunity to make use of these tickets. This offer is restricted to fully paid up VVV subscribers. For more information, please e-mail
